University Engineering Scholarship

The University Engineering Scholarship (UES) is open to Polytechnic Diploma holders from Singapore to pursue full-time undergraduate programmes at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) or Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).


Eligibility

  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Successful awardees should read a full-time Engineering or Technology-related undergraduate degree programme
  • Possess outstanding Local Polytechnic Diploma (preferably Diploma with merit/Diploma with Merit) in Engineering or Technology-related courses
  • Excellent Co-Curricular Activities record 
  • Strong leadership qualities and potential


Scholarship Benefits

The UES covers up to the normal programme duration on condition that the scholar maintains a record of good academic performance and conduct satisfactory to the University.

Scholars will receive the following:

  • Subsidised Tuition fees
  • Living allowance of S$5,800 per academic year
  • A one-off computer allowance of S$2,000


Terms & Conditions

  • Scholars, on completion of the programme, will have to serve a four-year bond working in an Engineering-related field in Singapore. (Applicable to all new UES scholars from AY2009. UES scholars prior to AY2009 will continue to be subjected to the 6-year bond obligation, as stated in their existing UES agreement.
  • Scholar must commence his/her study in a full-time Engineering or Technology-related undergraduate degree programme at SIT in same academic year of application. Scholar may not, without the approval of SIT, hold concurrently any other scholarships, bursaries or university loans.
  • Scholar must commence his/her study in a full-time Engineering or Technology-related undergraduate degree programme at SIT in same academic year of application. Scholar may not, without the approval of SIT, hold concurrently any other scholarships, bursaries or university loans.
  • Scholar is required to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 out of 5.0 or 2.8 out of 4, depending on the university he/she studied in. Academic performance will be reviewed every semester.
  • The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of SIT, the scholar’s progress or behaviour is deemed unsatisfactory. 
  • Scholars who withdraw from the scholarship voluntarily (due to leaving SIT prematurely) will be asked to pay liquidated damages (i.e. amount received by the scholars as at the date of termination plus 10% compounded interest per annum). 
  • Scholars whose scholarships are terminated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) because of unsatisfactory performance (or due to ill health or inability to cope with the course) will generally not be required to pay liquidated damages. MOE will decide on liquidated damages payable by the scholar in such circumstances, if any, on a case by case basis.
