About Singapore Institute of Technology

SIT was established by the Ministry of Education in 2009 to offer undergraduate degree programmes primarily for polytechnic graduates. In partnership with various reputable overseas universities, SIT has brought to Singapore some of the world’s top industry-focused degree programmes targeted at growth sectors of the economy.

Through a unique tripartite collaboration with its overseas university partners and the five local polytechnics, SIT represents a new model that is set to become a key pillar of university education. SIT also adopts a distributed campus model to allow greater synergy and efficiency. Through this model, SIT’s degree programmes will be housed within an SIT building in each of the polytechnics to cater to an intake of at least 2000 full-time students per academic year by 2015.

ANNEX

NEW OVERSEAS UNIVERSITY PARTNERS

Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College Dublin will offer two degree programmes: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. Both degree programmes will be conducted at Nanyang Polytechnic.

Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, established in 1592, is recognised globally as Ireland’s premier university. As Ireland’s leading university, the pursuit of excellence through research and scholarship is at the heart of a Trinity education. It has an outstanding record of publications in high-impact journals and leading academic publishers. Interdisciplinarity forms a key element in the university strategy in increasing Trinity’s international standing as a research-led university. Many of its alumni have helped shape history and include two Nobel prize winners – Ernest Walton for physics and Samuel Beckett for literature.

The Glasgow School of Art

The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) will offer two degree programmes: Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Communication Design and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Interior Design. Both degree programmes will be conducted at Temasek Polytechnic.

Founded in 1845 as a government School of Design, GSA is one of Europe’s leading higher education institutions for creative education and research in design, fine art and architecture. In fact, a quarter of the artists shortlisted for the Turner Prize since 2005 have been GSA graduates. At the heart of the GSA campus is the Mackintosh building designed by the famous Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, an alumnus of the college who was a prominent member of the “Glasgow School” movement. A novel curriculum in collaboration with SIT-UOG’s Mechanical Design Engineering degree programme is also being planned which will combine both engineering and design.

A GSA education is practice based, face-to-face, professionally oriented and socially engaged – Design Week magazine placed the GSA into its ‘Hot 50’ list as a Global Leader in its field, demonstrating their commitment to the development of design education, practice and research at the very highest levels.

Wheelock College

Wheelock College (WLC) will offer a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. The degree programme will be conducted at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Since 1888, Wheelock College (WLC) of Boston, USA, has sought to provide a transformational education to students who are passionate about making the world a better place, with a special emphasis on preparing its learners to teach, mentor and nurture young children and their families. The Wheelock degree balances the need to incorporate both theory and the development of real-life skills into its curriculum, leading its graduates to become skillful practitioners and leaders in the profession of Early Childhood Education. Its broad-based, globally-focused degree provides a distinctly interactive classroom experience for its students, with many of the modules co-taught by experienced Boston and Singapore instructors.
