SIT Open House 2012

At the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Open House 2012 this weekend, a unique challenge will be issued especially to all polytechnic graduates who are ready to pursue industry-focused degrees: Got What It Takes To Go All The Way?

Taking place on 14 & 15 January 2012 at the Suntec Convention Centre, determined polytechnic graduates will get to explore an array of degree programmes offered by ten recognised overseas universities under SIT, an initiative by the Ministry of Education that was established in 2009. SIT recently entered into partnerships with new Overseas University (OU) partners, The Glasgow School of Arts and Wheelock College. The partnership with Trinity College Dublin is pending final ratification by its University Board in Ireland.

Local polytechnic students specially catered to by SIT

SIT offers internationally recognised, industry-focused degrees in the areas of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Health Sciences, Design, Interactive Digital Media, Education and Hospitality. Early this year, SIT concluded partnerships with three more Overseas University Partners and will start offering seven new degree programmes for the Academic Year 2012/13.

As part of SIT’s exciting new degree offerings, polytechnic graduates with Aerospace-related diplomas will now be able to explore degree options in the Aeronautical and Aerospace Systems Engineering programmes from the University of Glasgow. In partnership with Trinity College Dublin, information on degrees in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy will be made available at the Open House. The Glasgow School of Art will also be present to provide more information on their degrees in Communication Design and Interior Design while Early Childhood Education students can find out more about upgrading opportunities with the well-established Wheelock College. The degree programmes offered are listed in the ANNEX.

Polytechnic students can also learn more about the financial assistance schemes and scholarships available to them. Over the past year, SIT has also expanded its pool of scholarship providers to include industry leaders such as the prestigious Overseas Union Enterprise Limited which oversees the hospitality group Meritus Hotels & Resorts.

Details of the Open House can be found at the SIT website at http://singaporetech.edu.sg/events/open-house. For more information on SIT’s degree programmes, interested students may visit www.SingaporeTech.edu.sg.

SIT Admission Exercise

SIT’s admission period will open on 1 February 2012. Interested students can apply via the SIT website at www.SingaporeTech.edu.sg. SIT takes a holistic approach in assessing applicants, taking into consideration academic results, extra-curricular interests and the candidate’s passion and personal qualities. Relevant work experience will also be considered and all shortlisted applicants will be assessed through interviews. For specific programmes, students may also have to submit portfolios or essays.

About Singapore Institute of Technology

SIT was established by the Ministry of Education in 2009 to offer undergraduate degree programmes primarily for polytechnic graduates. In partnership with various reputable overseas universities, SIT has brought to Singapore some of the world’s top industry-focused degree programmes targeted at growth sectors of the economy.

Through a unique tripartite collaboration with its overseas university partners and the five local polytechnics, SIT represents a new model that is set to become a key pillar of university education. SIT also adopts a distributed campus model to allow greater synergy and efficiency. Through this model, SIT’s degree programmes will be housed within an SIT building in each of the polytechnics to cater to an intake of at least 2000 full-time students per academic year by 2015.
