Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. It integrates the understanding of core mechanicals and materials with the design process facilitated by the knowledge of manufacturing technologies and engineering principles. It involves the production and usage of mechanical power for the design and development of tools, machines or structures comprising moving parts that work together to make life easier. Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering drives the world with applications for almost everything from taps and dams to bicycles and aircraft.

This degree programme covers engineering disciplines encompassing everything from structures, through to mechanisms, micro-electro-mechanical devices and systems for controlling complex processes. Students will integrate understanding of the core mechanical and materials engineering sciences with creativity in a design process fully integrated with knowledge of manufacturing technologies and operations. It focuses on producing engineers who can analyse in depth and apply the results of their analysis in the real world, delivering the mix of general and specific skills that are sought by companies. The degree covers all aspects of manufacturing: product innovation and introduction; management of operations and systems; enabling technologies and underpinning engineering science; design for manufacture; materials and processes; sensors and robotics.

Mechanical Engineers are an integral part of the automotive, aerospace, biomedical, chemical, communications, construction, environmental, IT and power-generation industries, among others.

Newcastle University
Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering, BEng(Hons)

All students will have to complete a 4-week attachment at the home campus of Newcastle University where they get to experience life as a student, living and studying in Newcastle, United Kingdom. The programme itinerary will include library and career talks, academic lectures, research and literature review workshops to prepare students for their final-year dissertation projects, as well as visits to companies, museums and key cultural sites.

The estimated cost of the overseas immersion programme ranges from S$4,000 to S$5,000.
