20140819 - sit iwsp signing ceremony

Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) commemorated its strong partnership with key Accounting industry leaders in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing today. Professor Ting Seng Kiong, Deputy President (Academic) & Provost, Singapore Institute of Technology, sealed agreements with Baker Tilly TFW LLP, BDO LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton LLP, KPMG Services Pte. Ltd, Nexia TS Public Accounting Corporation, PKF-CAP LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, RSM Chio Lim LLP, and UHY Lee Seng Chan & Co.

The signing of the MOUs was witnessed by Mr Lee Fook Chiew, CEO of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), and Mr Quek See Tiat, Chairman, Building & Construction Authority, Former Partner and Deputy Chairman, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Singapore, in his capacity as Chairman for the Industry Advisory Committee of SIT’s Accountancy degree programme.

With the signing of the MOUs, SIT’s industry partners have demonstrated strong support for SIT’s Bachelor of Accountancy with Honours degree programme. The MOUs will bolster industry support for SIT’s unique Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) by providing students with the opportunity to develop specialist skills within their company.

The IWSP is an integral part of applied learning as it provides an opportunity for students to integrate knowledge and skills gained in the classroom with real-world practice. IWSP Associates will develop the skills involved in problem identification, analysis and formulation of solutions to derive innovative solutions within their companies.

Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, Singapore Institute of Technology, said, "The Integrated Work Study Programme is where our students can really put to practice the adage to ‘learn, unlearn and relearn’. Their knowledge and skills will be tested in a real-world environment where they will be required to meld theory and practice together. It is industry-based learning at its best – an aspect of the educational experience that SIT values highly."

"Our industry partners have shown great support for our degree programmes since they were launched this year. Working together on the IWSP enables us to tailor the IWSP to fit the manpower needs of individual companies. I look forward to our continued partnership, and to welcoming the new generation of accountants who will face their industry with confidence."
