SIT was established in 2009 as an initiative by the Ministry of Education to provide upgrading opportunities primarily for polytechnic graduates. As of AY2011, SIT will accept a limited number of applicants with other qualifications, including the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Levels and International Baccalaureate (IB) into some of its degree programmes.
SIT only accepts Diplomas issued by the Polytechnics in Singapore, the American High School Diploma and the IB Diploma. All other Diplomas are not eligible to apply to SIT.
Applicants submitting the Singapore-Cambridge A-Levels must have obtained passes in at least three subjects at A/H2 Level and obtained at least a B/B4 grade for General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry (KI) in the same sitting.
Applicants submitting the International Baccalaureate (IB) must fulfil the following requirements:
Applicants who are not graduates from a Polytechnic in Singapore, but have completed a formal 12-year education equivalent to A-Levels, are eligible to apply for the following degree programmes at SIT:

Degree programmes not listed in the above table are not open for application to non-Diploma holders of the five Polytechnics in Singapore.
SIT takes a holistic approach in assessing applicants, taking into consideration academic results, extra-curricular interests and the candidate’s passion and personal qualities. Relevant work experience will also be considered and all shortlisted applicants will be assessed through interviews. For specific degree programmes, students may also have to submit portfolios or essays. Do note that applying to SIT does not equate to being shortlisted or accepted.
